EigenDraads was established to raise awareness of the urgency for a solution for non-reusable used textiles and to start acting and trying out potential solutions in Rotterdam. EigenDraads has been collaborating with textile sorters, governments and other regional stakeholders since 2018.

EigenDraads was founded by Hilde van Duijn in 2018, combining the love for her hometown with her expertise on circularity and textiles. Hilde remains active as a supporter of the Rotterdam Climate Deal coalition partners, next to her position as Head of Global Value Chains at Circle Economy.

Throughout the past years, EigenDraads was co-created together with out two amazing alumni:

Remi Veldhoven was the driving force behind the creation of our shirt, made of recycled polyester fibers produced by ambercycle from textiles collected at the Rotterdam marathon. After its launch in 2021, the shirt was part of the exposition Long Live Fashion! at the Textielmuseum in Tilburg.

Marieke Akerboom led the feasibility study on automated sorting in the Rotterdam region. Her financial model is still today a key reference for sorters, governments and investors in the Netherlands and abroad informing investments in the infrastructure required for more circular destinations of non-rewearable post-consumer textiles.

Since its inception EigenDraads received support from CityLab010, the City of Rotterdam, the Port of Rotterdam and the Province of South-Holland.
